James A. Riley

Biographical information[edit]

Widely regarded as one of the top experts on the Negro Leagues, James Riley directed research for the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum after 30 years of teaching and administrative work in Florida's public schools.

He has written or co-authored several books on the Negro Leagues, including All-Time All-Stars of Black Baseball (1983), Dandy, Day, and the Devil (1987) and The Biographical Encyclopedia of the Negro Baseball Leagues (1994). He also edited The Baseball Encyclopedia and was a president of the Society for American Baseball Research (SABR).
