Biographical Information

Elvio Jimenez played one game for the New York Yankees on October 4, 1964, getting two hits in 6 at-bats against the Cleveland Indians. The Yankees lost the game, 2-1, in 13 innings; his two hits came against two very good pitchers, Luis Tiant and Tommy John. His career was mainly with the Tigres del Licey, where he played from 1958 to 1976. His nickname was "Mulito". He continues to be with Licey as a coach.

He played in the minors from 1959 to 1971, hitting .300 at numerous stops including .368 for Modesto in 1960, .331 for Augusta in 1963 and .340 for Columbus in 1967. As late as 1969, he was still considered a prospect, appearing in that season's Topps baseball card set on the Pittsburgh Pirates' rookie card, alongside pitcher Jim Shellenback.

He is the brother of Manny Jimenez. They were both early players from San Pedro de Macoris. Elvio managed the 1993 DSL Giants/Phillies/Astros. As a scout, Jimenez signed José Offerman, Pedro Báez, Willy Mota and Leo Rodríguez.
