Biographical Information[edit]

Edith De Leija has played for the Mexican women's national team.

In the 2022 Women's Baseball Americas World Cup Qualifier, she grounded out against Lorena Medrano of the Dominican Republic in her first at-bat but walked the next time to the plate then had a two-run single off Esmeralda Alcantara as Mexico beat the more established Dominicans. She hit .368/.500/.579 while serving as Mexico's main second baseman, fielding .923; they won a spot in the 2023-2024 Women's Baseball World Cup, their first Women's Baseball World Cup. She tied for 6th in hits (7), tied Yakary Molina for 6th in total bases (11) and tied for 8th in assists (13). [1] In Mexico's WBWC debut, she batted second and played third base. She struck out against Canada's Raine Padgham her first time up but her 4th-inning ground-out drove in Samaria Benítez for Mexico's first RBI in a WBWC. She had a 3-hit game versus South Korea and finished at .357/.500/.357 with 4 runs, 4 RBI and 3 steals (not caught) in 5 games in the 2023 phase, fielding .778. She was among the Group A leaders in hits (tied for 8th), walks (5, tied for 4th with Alex Hugo, Sena Catterall and Tess Sawkins), assists (7, tied for 5th with Vivien Cheung, So-yeon Park and Alexane Fournier) and errors (4, 2nd, two behind Ju-a Park). [2] Thanks to her fine offensive contributions, Mexico qualified for the 2024 portion of the event.
