Biographical Information[edit]

Dylan Rheault has pitched as high as AAA and for Team Canada.

Rheault grew up in Canada then moved to Chicago his last year in high school. He had offers to play NCAA Division II basketball but the giant hurler instead opted to walk-on in baseball. [1] He was 1-4 with a 6.08 ERA for Central Michigan in 2013, battling control issues. The Baltimore Orioles still took him in the 19th round of the 2013 amateur draft; the scout was Bob Szymkowski. [2]

He was much sharper as a pro than in college that summer, almost cutting his walk rate in half while going 1-2 with a 3.57 ERA for the Aberdeen Ironbirds. He split 2014 between the Delmarva Shorebirds (8-4, 3 Sv, 2.82 in 34 G) and Frederick Keys (0-3, 3.38 in 4 G), pitching in the South Atlantic League All-Star Game. He tied for 7th in the O's chain in wins. In 2015, he fell to 3-2, 6.39 with one save for the Keys.

Let go by Baltimore, he pitched for the independent leagues in 2016, going 1-1 with a save and a 3.94 ERA for the Winnipeg Goldeyes (1 G) and Sioux City Explorers (33 G). Following a try-out, he got a deal with the San Francisco Giants. [3] He went 2-1 with 21 saves and a 2.70 ERA for the 2017 San Jose Giants. He led Giants minor leaguers in saves (3 ahead of Tyler Cyr) and led the California League (two more than Nolan Blackwood). He made the California League All-Star team, joining Jose Almonte, Nick Neidert and Caleb Ferguson as the chosen pitchers. [4]

He was also sharp in 2018, with San Jose (2-3, 3 Sv, 2.43 in 25 G), the Richmond Flying Squirrels (3.38 in 2 G) and the Sacramento River Cats (0 R in 2 IP). Despite a 2.38 season ERA, the Giants did not retain him after the season. He was with Canada for the 2019 Pan American Games Qualifying Tournament. He got into one game, relieving Jasvir Rakkar in the 5th with a 6-5 deficit against Colombia. He pitched a hitless, walkless, scoreless frame then Jay Johnson relieved. Canada would win a spot for the 2019 Pan American Games. [5]

Rheault signed with the indy Lancaster Barnstormers for 2019 and pitched 7 2/3 shutout innings. He was back with Canada for the 2019 Premier 12 but did not get into a game. [6]
