Biographical Information[edit]

Diego Wakabayashi was on the Peruvian national team in the 2011 South American Championship. He saved Peru's win in the Bronze Medal game of the 2012 South American Championship. He got Peru's start against champion Panama in the 2013 Bolivarian Games and struggled (9 H, 1 BB, 7 R, 2 ER in 1 2/3 IP). His .600 average allowed was the highest on Peru while he tied Gianpierre Reaño for Peru's highest ERA. He helped Peru to a Bronze in the 2015 South American Championship. In the the 2016 South American Championship, he allowed two unearned runs in an inning against Colombia, pitched 1 2/3 shutout innings to close out Andrés Hamamoto's win over Bolivia and allowed one run in one inning against Argentina. He led the team in games pitched; in the round-robin phase, he tied Horacio Acosta, Luis Rico and Rodrigo Bruera for second in games pitched, one behind Marco Davalos.
