Biographical Information

David Corrente is a minor league catcher who has played for Team Canada and who was a member of the Canadian Junior National Team in 2001.

Corrente was a 14th-round pick of the Toronto Blue Jays in the 2001 amateur draft. He debuted with the Medicine Hat Blue Jays, hitting only .192/.298/.273. In 2002, he batted .253/.351/.432 for Medicine Hat. For the 2003 Charleston AlleyCats, the Ontario native produced at a .214/.296/.277 rate. In 2004, the 20-year-old hit .257/.349/.336 for the Auburn Doubledays.

Corrente moved up to the Lansing Lugnuts for 2005 and hit .200/.287/.265. He played just 36 games in 2006 between the Dunedin Blue Jays (.319/.359/.560, 7 HR in 116 AB) and the New Hampshire Fisher Cats (1 for 3, double, walk). He was Canada's starting catcher in the 2006 COPABE Olympic Qualifier and hit .333/.385/.667 while not allowing a steal. He outproduced all the team's position players with MLB experience - Stubby Clapp, Kevin Nicholson, Ryan Radmanovich and Pete LaForest.

Corrente hit .220/.310/.447 in 39 games for the Dunedin Blue Jays with 7 homers in 123 AB. He also played 12 contests for the AAA Syracuse Chiefs, hitting .323/.382/.677 with 3 homers in 31 AB. While listed on Canada's roster for the 2007 Baseball World Cup, he did not play as Chris Robinson and Emerson Frostad did all the catching.

In the 2008 Final Olympic Qualification Tournament, David was excellent, going 5 for 12 with a walk, 2 doubles, a homer and two sacrifice flies while splitting catching duties with Robinson. Corrente failed to throw out anyone running in three tries. His slugging percentage was third on Team Canada behind Jimmy Van Ostrand and Nick Weglarz as they won the tournament to get a spot in the 2008 Olympics. He prevented a major loss of face against the German national team with a solo homer off of André Hughes, Canada's only run in regulation. They won in extra innings against a team they had been widely favored against - Corrente provided their only run against Hughes.

Corrente fared much worse in the 2008 Olympics, going 0 for 6 with 3 strikeouts; he was used primarily as a defensive sub for Chris Robinson and Emerson Frostad.
