Biographical Information[edit]

Dave Boyer is the son of Ken Boyer, and nephew of major leaguers Clete Boyer, Cloyd Boyer, and minor leaguers Lynn Boyer, Wayne Boyer and Len Boyer. He is also the cousin of Mickey Boyer.

Dave was picked by the St. Louis Cardinals in the 31st round of the 1974 amateur draft. He hit .265/.296/.309 for the GCL Cardinals that summer. He shared third base with a kid named Scott Boras who would go on to be a much bigger baseball name. In '75, Dave Boyer hit .261/.307/.353 for the Johnson City Cardinals. Moved to first base, he nearly led Appalachian League first basemen in fielding percentage - his .9807 was .0002 behind leader Marshall Brant. For the 1976 season, Boyer hit .233/.317/.275 for the St. Petersburg Cardinals; he played third when Boras was at second. Boyer's .926 fielding would have led Florida State League third basemen (edging out Lou Whitaker) had he qualified.

In 1977, Boyer played for St. Petersburg (.220/.274/.251) and the Gastonia Cardinals (.272/.368/.309). He did not homer in 340 at-bats but fielded .960 at the hot corner for St. Petersburg, second-best in the FSL. In 1978, he ended his career with the Arkansas Travelers, struggling with both the bat (.227/.288/.322) and glove (.879 fielding at 3B).
