Biographical Information[edit]

Daphnée Gélinas has played for the Canadian women's national team.

She was often the only girl in her baseball league when growing up. [1] She debuted for Canada in the 2016 Women's Baseball World Cup, pinch-hitting for Melissa Armstrong late in a loss to Japan. Facing tourney MVP Ayami Sato, she reached on an error and Mia Valcke pinch-ran. Her first hit was off Chittari Chandu Priya in a game in which she scored three runs against India. She hit .286/.375/.429 for the event, going 3-for-3 in steals and handling four chances error-free, mostly backing up Nicole Luchanski at 2B. [2]

In the 2018 Women's Baseball World Cup, she was Canada's main second baseman, with Luchanski moving to DH usually. She hit .409/.517/.727 with seven runs and nine RBI in eight games, while handling 27 chances without an error. She was especially big in the Bronze Medal Game against Team USA. She socked a three-run homer off Brittany Schutte in the 5th for Canada's only runs in the first nine. In the top of the 10th, she singled off Stacy Piagno to score Kaitlyn Ross with the go-ahead run as Canada won the Bronze. She did not make the All-World team as Maigleth Torres was picked at 2B, but she was among the tourney leaders in homers (1, tied for second, one behind Megan Baltzell), RBI (tied Malaika Underwood and Jade Gortarez for 9th), slugging (tied Iori Miura for 4th), assists (tied Tsz-Chin Lau for 6th with 20) and double plays turned (4, tied for 9th). [3] She won the International Team Sport Athlete award from Sport Québec in 2019, for her performance in '18. [4]

She is the daughter of sports reporter and author Luc Gélinas, whose main beat for Réseau des Sports is ice hockey, not baseball.
