Biographical Information[edit]

Mia Valcke has played for the Canadian women's national team. She is the daughter of Tom Valcke. [1]

She debuted for Canada in the 2016 Women's Baseball World Cup, first being used as a pinch-runner for Daphnée Gélinas. The 16-year-old first batted against India, hitting a sacrifice fly off Girija Sunil Bodekar in her first plate appearance, driving in Becky Hartley. Her first hit came off Chittari Chandu Priya. She finished the event 4-for-8 with two walks, four steals in six tries, two runs, five RBI, a double and a hit-by-pitch as Canada won the Silver Medal. In the title game, she again pinch-ran, in the loss to Japan. Only Kelsey Lalor had more RBI for Canada, despite Valcke's backup role, and she tied Nicole Luchanski for third on the team in swipes. [2]

In the 2018 Women's Baseball World Cup, she hit .296/.345/.407 with 4 RBI in 9 games, starting in left for Canada. In the Bronze Medal Game, she went 2 for 4 with a double and a RBI as Canada beat the US for another medal. She tied for 6th in the Cup in doubles. [3]

After the COVID-19 pandemic cancelled the next Cup, she returned to action in the 2023-2024 Women's Baseball World Cup. She was not used in the 2023 portion, but was Canada's starting shortstop in the final phase. She had a 5-for-5 game to beat defending Silver Medalist Taiwan. She was 0-for-3 with a run in their win over Mexico in the Bronze Medal game, repeating as victors there. She batted .429/.500/.476 for the tourney with six runs in six games, fielding .900. In the final phase, she was 7th in runs, tied for the hit lead (even with teammate Sena Catterall, Yi-Hsuan Chiu, Miwa Naraoka and Miu Shiraishi) and tied Catterall and Alex Hugo for 5th in total bases (10). She was named the All-World shortstop. [4]
