Biographical Information

Danny Wout is a former Olympic pitcher. He is the son of Harold Wout and nephew of Roly Wout.

Wout was in the Dutch minors with UVV from 1989-1992. In 1993, the 19-year-old made it to the Hoofdklasse with HCAW but went just 3-10 with a 4.82 ERA. He still made the Dutch national team for the 1993 World Port Tournament and 1993 European Championship (where they won Gold; he was 1-0 with a 3.21 ERA). He tied Mikael Aho for 5th in the 1993 Euros with 14 innings pitched, tied Oswald Boermans and Joeri Loykens for 9th in strikeouts (10) and was 10th in WHIP (between Michael Wäller and Peter Callenbach). Danny had a 4-8, 4.53 record in 1994 and appeared in the 1994 Haarlem Baseball Week.

In 1995, the right-hander had his best year at 11-5, 4.52. He pitched in the 1995 World Port Tournament (3.60), 1995 European Championship (1.50, Sv for the Gold Medalists) and 1995 Intercontinental Cup (1-0, 0 R in 5 IP in an easy win over Spain and Carlos Ros). Wout went 7-4 with a 5.32 ERA in 1996, then won his lone decision in the 1996 Holland Series (4.61) as HCAW took its first Holland Series title. He was 1-0 with a 8.10 ERA in the 1996 Haarlem Baseball Week. In the 1996 Olympics, the 22-year-old was 0-1 with a 11.57 ERA that still managed to be better than the team ERA as a whole. His loss came against Team USA when both Jacque Jones and Matt LeCroy took him deep in a 17-1 rout.

Wout allowed six runs in eight innings in 1997 and finished his Hoofdklasse career 25-27 with a 4.74 ERA.
