Biographical Information

Roly Wout played 11 seasons in the Hoofdklasse and also coached. He was noted as a power hitter. His brother Harold Wout and nephews Ruben Leysner and Vincent Leysner also played in the Hoofdklasse and his nephew Danny Wout pitched in the Olympics.

He came to the Netherlands in 1964 and joined Ajax in 1965 as a pitcher-third baseman. He had a game-winning three-run homer one contest as a rookie. He went deep five times that year, when it was a 21-game season. He also batted .371, third in the league behind Hamilton Richardson and Hudson John and was 5th with 26 hits.

In 1966, he hit three home runs. He moved to UVV in 1967, which was then in the Dutch minors. His future wife (then girlfriend) worked in the city of Utrecht (where UVV was) at the time. He next moved up to HCAW for 1970, returning to the Dutch majors. After three years there, he returned to UVV. In 1970, he had one of the few three-homer games in Dutch annals. In 1974, he led the Hoofdklasse with 22 RBI, one ahead of Jaap Bijl, Ben Richardson and Hamilton Richardson. In 1977, he hit .359 to lead UVV, finishing 5th in the league. He was 4th with 32 RBI. He hit .292 in 1978 but fell to .202 by 1980, though he still hit six homers that season. He retired after the 1980 season.

He became assistant coach of Quick Amersfoort for 1981 and still played 13 games, hitting .231. He coached for UVV in 1984 and then played softball through 1987. He coached Hilversum in the Dutch minors in 1988.
