Biographical Information[edit]
Pitcher Daniel Gossett was selected by the Oakland Athletics in the second round of the 2014 amateur draft, out of Clemson University. He had earlier been a 16th round selection by the Boston Red Sox in 2011, but elected not to sign at that time.
He began his professional career in 2014 with the Vermont Lake Monsters of the New York-Penn League, going 1-0, 2.25 in 12 games, all but one in relief. In 2015, he moved to the Beloit Snappers of the Midwest League where he was a starting pitcher, making 27 starts and pitching 144 2/3 innings. he results were so-so, with a record of 5-13 and a 4.73 ERA. He improved dramatically in 2016, which he split among three teams: the Class A Stockton Ports (4-1, 3.33), the AA Midland RockHounds (5-5, 3.54) and the AAA Nashville Sounds (1-0, 1.98). Altogether, he made an other 27 starts, logged 153 2/3 innings, and finished at 10-6, 2.69 with 151 strikeouts.
He began the 2017 season back with Nashville in the Pacific Coast League and after 11 starts was 3-3, 3.41 when he was called up to Oakland on June 14th to make his major league debut as the A's starter against the Miami Marlins that day. he was staked an early 4-0 lead but could not hold it and ended up on the losing end of an 11-6 score after giving up 7 runs in 3 1/3 innings. He recorded his first major league win against the Chicago White Sox on June 24th by a score of 10-2. In that game, three A's players hit their first major league homer: Matt Olson (who hit two), Jaycob Brugman and Franklin Barreto (who was making his major league debut). Such a feat had not been done since the 1914 Kansas City Packers.
