Otero made the Giants' staff out of spring training in 2012. He debuted in their second game of the year, entering in the 5th with a 4-2 deficit against the Diamondbacks on April 7th, after Madison Bumgarner had been lifted for a pinch-hitter. He struck out his first batter, Justin Upton, on three pitches. Miguel Montero singled then the control expert threw a wild pitch. Chris Young doubled but Otero recovered to fan Paul Goldschmidt.
