College World Series Regionals
From 1954 to 1974, schools competed in one of eight District Tournaments to participate in the College World Series.
Beginning in 1975, the format was changed to begin with 8 Regionals, with from 4 to 6 teams at varying times. The pool started with 32 teams in 1975 and was up to 48 teams in 1998. The winner of each Regional advanced to the College World Series. This format lasted through 1998.
Beginning in 1999, the format was changed again to include 64 schools, broken into 16 4-team Regionals. The winners of the 16 Regionals advanced to one of 8 2-team Super Regionals. The winners of the 8 Super Regionals advanced to the College World Series.
