Biographical Information[edit]

Relief pitcher Chuck Ghysels began his professional career in 2012.

He played for the NJCAA All-Stars in the 2010 Haarlem Baseball Week, allowing five hits, five walks and five runs in 3 2/3 IP while fanning four. He was drafted by the Cincinnati Reds in the 36th round of the 2010 amateur draft, but opted not to sign. After a couple more years of college, he then inked as a free agent by Toronto Blue Jays scout Eric McQueen.

Between the GCL Blue Jays and Dunedin Blue Jays that first year, he went 0-3 with a 3.45 ERA in 27 appearances, striking out 47 batters in 28 2/3 innings. He pitched for the Vancouver Canadians, Lansing Lugnuts and Dunedin in 2013 and went 2-4 with 14 saves and a 3.17 ERA in 43 games, K-ing 71 batters in 48 1/3 innings.

He joined the independent circuit in 2014, pitching for the Traverse City Beach Bums (41 G) and Normal CornBelters, going 2-5 with a 3.64 ERA, striking out 79 batters in 54 1/3 frames. He began 2015 with Traverse City, going 6-2 with a 3.17 ERA in 43 appearances; in 48 1/3 innings, he struck out 69 batters.

Overall Ghysels went 2-7 with 21 saves and a 3.27 ERA in 70 games in the affiliated minors, striking out 118 batters in 77 innings. In indy ball, he was 8-7 with 6 saves and a 3.42 ERA in 84 games, striking out 148 batters in 102 2/3 innings.
