Biographical information

Infielder Chris Barnwell was selected by the Milwaukee Brewers in the 25th round of the 2001 amateur draft and made his pro debut that summer with the Ogden Raptors, finishing fifth in the Pioneer League with 5 triples. He began the next season with the Beloit Snappers before being promoted to the High Desert Mavericks in July. He spent a little more than two years with the Double A Huntsville Stars before moving up to the Triple A Nashville Sounds in April 2005.

Barnwell hit .300 in 106 games for Nashville in 2006 and earned a month-long call up to the majors with the Brewers that year, appearing in 13 big league games. He spent the entire following summer back with the Sounds, hitting .268 and posting a career-best 8 home runs and 70 runs scored. Following the 2007 season, Barnwell signed with the Florida Marlins organization and spent the 2008 campaign with the Albuquerque Isotopes, for whom he hit .276 with 6 homers and 42 RBI in 94 games. He joined the Pittsburgh Pirates organization in 2009 and spent the year, his final as a professional, with the Triple A Indianapolis Indians. During his minor league career, Barnwell made eight appearances as a pitcher, going 1-0 with a 1.08 ERA.

Barnwell was born and grew up in Florida but his father was from Nova Scotia, making him eligible to play for Team Canada in international play. He was the team's starting shortstop and leadoff hitter in the 2009 World Baseball Classic.
