Biographical Information[edit]

Chin-Tien Shih played in the CPBL for 7 years.

Shih represented Taiwan in the 1998 U-18 Asian Baseball Championship and the 2000 Haarlemse Honkbalweek. The Uni-President Lions drafted him in the third round of the 2003 CPBL Draft, and he hit .246/.280/.297 in his rookie year. He was 2-for-8 in the 2005 CPBL Playoff Series, but the Lions were eliminated by the Macoto Cobras. Shih's batting line was .252/.284/.317 in 2006, and he was 0-for-2 in the 2006 Taiwan Series; the Lions were swept by the La New Bears. He hit .356/.383/.400 in the beginning of the 2007 season, but he was plunked by Kevin Henthorne on the left cheek on June 30, and he missed four months. Shih returned in the 2007 CPBL Playoff Series, and he was 1-for-2 to help the Lions advance. He then went 2-for-5 in the 2007 Taiwan Series, and he won his first title as the Lions beat the Bears in 7 games.

The Taichung native slumped to .195/.244/.239 in 2008, and he won another title as the Lions beat the Brother Elephants in 7 games; he was 0-for-1 in the series. Shih then hit .246/.304/.284 in 2009, and he was 1-for-11 in the 2009 Taiwan Series; the Lions beat the Elephants in 7 games again. He only got 70 at-bats with the big club in 2010, and the Lions released him. The Sinon Bulls picked him up, and turned him into a two-way player. Shih hit .250/.282/.279 in 68 at-bats while pitching 2/3 of a shutout inning in 2011. He announced his retirement after the 2011 season and became a coach. Shih was the fielding coach of the Bulls/EDA Rhinos from 2012 to 2015, and he coached the minor league team of the Rhinos/Fubon Guardians from 2016 to 2018 and from 2022 to 2023. He was their manager from 201 to 2020.

Overall, Shih had hit .213/.347/.264 with 121 hits and 25 doubles in 7 seasons in the CPBL.
