Biographical Information[edit]

Chien-Lin Kuo is a Gold Glove third baseman in CPBL, who has played and coached for Chinese Taipei national baseball team.

Kuo represented Taiwan in the 1983 World Junior Championship, 1987 Asian Championship, and 1987 Intercontinental Cup. He made Taiwan's roster for the 1988 Baseball World Cup and 1988 Olympics, but withdrew before both events due to injuries.

The Wei Chuan Dragons signed Kuo when they were founded in 1990, and he became a superstar of the early CPBL. He batted .261/.324/.301 in the first year of CPBL, and recorded a .272/.343/.329 batting line with 29 RBI in 1991. He was the winner of the first class of Best Ten awards as the third baseman, and also was selected to the All-Star Game two years in a row. The talented infielder continued his good performance, batting .278/.354/.335 with a career-high 13 stolen bases in 1992, and won his first CPBL Gold Glove award in 1993. His career year was 1995, as Kuo hit .273/.333/.443, stole 8 bases and won his second Gold Glove award. He set the record for highest fielding percentagev(0.981) and most consecutive fielding chances without an error (146) as a third baseman. He was one of nine players who were selected to the All-Star Game in six consecutive seasons from the founding of the league. Kuo still batted OK in 1996, had a .221/.293/.248 batting line.

When the Taiwan Major League began in 1997, Kuo jumped to there and joined the Taipei Gida. His defence was still perfect, and he won the TML Gold Glove in 1999 and 2000. The 35-years-old infielder retired after 2000 season, and became a coach for the Kaoping Fala. When two leagues merged in 2003, Kuo was assigned to the La New Bears, and served as manager in the CPBL minors from 2004 to 2007 and 2011 to 2017. He was the bench coach for the Lamigo Monkeys in 2018 and 2019, and the Fubon Guardians signed him in 2020. Kuo worked as the bench coach there for two years, then went back to coach in the minors for Fubon in 2022. Kuo also made Taiwan's roster for the 2015 Premier 12 as the fielding coach, and was named as bench coach for the 2019 Premier 12.

Overall, Kuo hit .253/.318/.304 with 792 hits and 123 doubles in 11 seasons in the CPBL and the TML.
