Biographical Information[edit]

Pitcher Chase De Jong was a 2nd round selection by the Toronto Blue Jays in the 2012 amateur draft, out of a high school in the Los Angeles, CA area. he began his pro career that season with the GCL Blue Jays, pitching 6 times in relief and going 1-0, 1.50. In 2013, he was 2-3, 3.05 principally as a starter with the Bluefield Blue Jays of the Appalachian League, then in 2014 went 1-6, 4.82 in 23 games with the Lansing Lugnuts of the Midwest League.

He was back at Lansing at the start of the 2015 season and did better, going 7-4, 3.13 in 14 starts. On June 25th, he was promoted to the Dunedin Blue Jays of the Florida State League, but before he could make an appearance with them , he was placed on the disabled list then on July 2nd he was traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers along with 2B Tim Locastro in return for two international bonus pool slots, a move which allowed the Jays to sign top international prospect Vladimir Guerrero Jr. De Jong was assigned to the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes of the California League where he went 4-3, 3.96 the rest of the way. Combined, his record for the year was a solid 11-7, 3.43 in 25 games, with 136 1/3 innings and a K/W ratio of 129/33.

Chase's good performance earned him an invitation to take part in spring training with the Dodgers in 2016. While he did not make the team, he had another excellent season, being named the Texas League pitcher of the year on the basis of going 14-5, 2.86 in 25 starts for the Tulsa Drillers. He also made one start with the AAA Oklahoma City Dodgers in which he earned another win by giving up 1 run in 5 1/3 innings. Altogether, he was 15-5, 2.86, with 133 strikeouts in 147 innings. It was thus somewhat surprising that a couple of weeks into spring training in 2017, he was traded to the Seattle Mariners on March 1st, in return for IF Drew Jackson and P Aneurys Zabala. The M's immediately designated for assignment IF Mike Freeman to make room for Chase on their 40-man roster and indicated that they were expecting him to make his big league debut in short order. He did indeed make the Mariners' opening day roster and had his first big league outing on April 5th. It did not go too well, as he came on to pitch in the 13th inning against the Houston Astros after his team had taken a 3-2 lead in the top of the inning, but he walked Evan Gattis with one out, then gave up a two-out single to Nori Aoki before George Springer connected for a walk-off three-run homer, saddling him with the 5-3 loss. He went 0-3, 6.35 that first season, pitching 7 times including 4 starts and logging 28 1/3 innings.

On July 30, 2018 he was traded to the Minnesota Twins along with Ryan Costello in return for veteran reliever Zach Duke.

He is a cousin of Jordan De Jong.
