Biographical Information[edit]
Mike Freeman began his professional career in 2010.
He was originally taken in the 41st round of the 2006 amateur draft by the San Diego Padres, one pick ahead of pitcher Vic Black, but opted not to sign. He was then taken by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the 36th round of the 2009 amateur draft, but again did not sign. He did sign after being taken by the Diamondbacks in the 11th round of the 2010 amateur draft. The scout was George Swain.
He began his career with a .333/.403/.407 line with 20 stolen bases in 53 games for the Yakima Bears in 2010, and -- after a down year in 2011 (though he stole 16 bags) -- he hit .309/.377/.389 with 30 swipes in 135 games for the Visalia Oaks. He was a MiLB.com Organization All-Star in both 2010 and 2012. He had another poor campaign in 2013 (despite making the Southern League Mid-Season All-Star team), though he rebounded in 2014 to hit .263/.330/.399 with 10 triples and 13 stolen bases in 123 games between the Mobile BayBears and Triple-A Reno Aces. In his first taste of Triple-A, he hit .307/.365/.436 with seven triples in 71 games. He began 2015 with Reno.
Freeman made his major league debut with the Arizona Diamondbacks just after the All-Star break in 2016 but was placed on waivers at the end of the month after going 0 for 9 in 8 games, mainly as a pinch-hitter. He did not make much contact, as he struck out 5 times and drew a pair of walks during his brief stint. Claimed by the Seattle Mariners, he played his first game with his new team on August 7th after spending a week with the AAA Tacoma Rainiers. In that game, he picked up his first two big league hits and also had an RBI in a 3-1 win over the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. In 13 games for Seattle, he hit .385 to put him at .227 with 1 RBI in 21 games for the year.
Freeman went to spring training with the Mariners in 2017, but on March 1st he was designated for assignment to make room on the roster for P Chase De Jong, acquired in a trade with the Los Angeles Dodgers that same day.
Freeman became a manager with the Arkansas Travelers in 2023.
