Biographical Information

Charlie Sullivan has played, coached and scouted.

Sullivan was picked by the Cincinnati Reds in the 26th round of the 1988 amateur draft but continued on to college. In the 1991 amateur draft, the Texas Rangers chose him in the 27th round and he signed.

Sullivan made his pro debut with the Butte Copper Kings, hitting .216/~.342/.304 in 47 games with 41 strikeouts in 125 AB as a 2B-3B. In '92, he was 2 for 25 with 2 walks and 11 K for Butte. In 1993, he was in the New York Mets chain, batting .269/.360/.391 for the Pittsfield Mets. He led Pittsfield with four triples, one ahead of runner-up Benny Agbayani.

According to his British Baseball Federation bio, Sullivan played for the French national team in the 1994 European Championship but there was no European Championship that year; perhaps he played in a B-Pool qualifying event.

In 1995, Sullivan was a player-coach for the Albany-Colonie Diamond Dogs, going 2 for 7 at the plate; one of his teammates was Stephan Rapaglia, whose path he would cross again. In '96, Charlie was 12 for 48 with 3 doubles and a triple for Albany, again coaching primarily. During 1997, Sullivan hit .238 and slugged .302. He managed Albany in 1998-1999, finishing over .500 both years.

Sullivan then went into scouting. He spent six years with the Pittsburgh Pirates (2000-2005) and then joined the Milwaukee Brewers (2006-). He signed Rajai Davis, Dave Davidson, Michael Fiers, Matt Hardy, Bobby Kingsbury, Efrain Nieves and Shawn Zarraga. He coached for the British national team in the 2007 European Championship, helping them win a Silver Medal for the second time ever in a European Championship. His manager was Rapaglia, his former Albany teammate.
