Biographical Information[edit]

Carlos Vidal led his league in key offensive departments each of his first two years as a pro.

Vidal was signed by the New York Yankees in May 2014. He hit .361/.482/.498 for the DSL Yankees 2 that year, with an amazing 65 runs in 56 games. He drew 42 walks. The lone negative was his base-stealing (caught in 12 of 25 tries). He led the Dominican Summer League in OBP (.027 over #2 Jorma Rodriguez), tied Jesus Martinez for 4th in runs (despite playing 11 fewer games) and was third in average (behind Joantgel Segovia and Manuel Joseph).

Coming stateside with the Pulaski Yankees, he hit .303/.389/.492 with 16 steals in 21 tries, 49 runs and 46 RBI in 60 games. He led the Appalachian League in runs (one more than Hoy Jun Park), was 3rd with 74 hits (behind Kevin Kaczmarski and Patrick Mazeika), tied for 6th in home runs (9), was 3rd in RBI (after Dash Winningham and Mazeika), was 5th in steals, ranked 8th in OBP and was 7th in OPS (between Allen Valerio and Brandon Dulin). He was named to the league All-Star team, joining Kaczmarski and Magneuris Sierra in the outfield.

He was easily the youngest player on the Colombian national team in the 2017 World Baseball Classic Qualifiers, almost 11 months behind Kevin Escorcia. While Escorcia was not used in the event, Vidal started for Colombia in left field. He was 2 for 8 with a double, four walks, two runs and one RBI in three games to finish second on the team in OBP (behind only Jesus Valdez). In game 2 against host Panama, he started the scoring, doubling off Davis Romero to open the 3rd and then coming around on a hit by Dilson Herrera. For the Panama qualifier, he tied Ernesto Martínez and Isaias Velasquez for 4th in OBP (behind Jesús Golindano, Frédéric Hanvi and Carlos Ruiz) and tied Ruiz, Luis Castillo and René Leveret for the most walks.

Vidal was defensive coach for the DSL Yankees 2 in 2021, DSL Bombers in 2022, and DSL Yankees in 2023.
