Biographical Information[edit]
Carlos Machorro pitched in the minors and played for Mexico national baseball team.
Machorro was signed by Cincinnati Reds scout Tony Arias in 2014. [1] He pitched 5 games with a 1.50 ERA for the AZL Reds and 9 games with a 4.76 ERA for the Billings Mustangs in 2015. He then represented Mexico in the 2015 Premier 12 (the team did not have access to Mexican League players due to a conflict between the league and the country's baseball federation, making them rely on Mexican-Americans and Mexicans in the US minors, and he allowed 2 runs in 1/3 of an inning in his only appearance against the USA. He notched 5 saves with a 1.52 ERA in the AZL in 2016 (walking only one in 23 2/3 IP), but his ERA rose to 9.00 in 8 appearances in Billings. He tied Matt Foster and Osiris Ramirez for 4th in the Arizona League in saves. He recorded a solid 2.29 ERA in 29 relief outings for the Dayton Dragons in 2017, combining with Scott Moss and Brian Hunter on a no-hitter against the Bowling Green Hot Rods. [3] He suffered from injuries in 2018 so he only pitched 6 games that year, having left elbow injury. [4] Machorro had an appearance for the Yaquis de Obregon in winter ball.
The Monterrey native's ERA was 3.61 in 24 games for the Dragons in 2019, but he allowed 3 runs in 2 2/3 innings with the Daytona Tortugas. He had a 1.75 ERA in 26 games for the Yaquis in the winter, and he slumped to 2-1 with a 7.43 ERA there after the coronavirus shut down the minor leagues in 2020. After leaving the Reds system, Machorro had a 6.11 ERA in 19 games for the Sultanes de Monterrey in 2021, and he went 2-1 with a 0.43 ERA in Obregon. He struggled again for the Sultanes in 2022 as he allowed 22 runs in 18 innings, and his ERA was 1.38 in 28 games for the Tomateros de Culiacan in the winter. The '22 season was his last season as a professional player.
