Biographical Information[edit]

Matt Foster earned the win in his major league debut with the Chicago White Sox on August 1, 2020. He came into the game at the start of the 5th inning with the White Sox holding a 7-0 lead over the Kansas City Royals and after giving up a lead-off single to Jorge Soler, retired the next three batters, including a strikeout of Ryan McBroom. He then left in favor of Jace Fry and the Sox won the game, 11-5. Because starter Gio Gonzalez had failed to pitch 5 innings, it was up to the official scorer to determine the winning pitcher, and he opted to give the win to Foster over Jimmy Cordero, who had recorded the final out in the 4th inning.
