Biographical Information[edit]
Buddy Boshers reached the majors in 2013. He was a high school teammate of Craig Kimbrel.
Buddy was picked by the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim in the 4th round of the 2008 amateur draft, between Ryne White and Corban Joseph; the scout was Jim Bryant. In his pro debut, he went 5-0 with a 2.68 ERA for the 2008 Orem Owlz. Had he qualified, he would have been third in the Pioneer League in ERA behind Dexter Carter and Jayson Miller. He split 2009 between Orem (2-1, 2.55 in 5 games), the Cedar Rapids Kernels (3-1, 5.97 in 6 games) and the Salt Lake Bees (0 R in 1 1/3 innings). During 2010, he was 3-0 with a 4.31 ERA in 36 games (7 starts) for Cedar Rapids. In 2011, the Alabaman was 2-5 with a save, 4.30 ERA and 1.71 WHIP for the Inland Empire 66ers. He split 2012 between Inland Empire (4-2, a save, 2.52, 48 strikeouts in 39 1/3 innings) and the Arkansas Travelers (1-0, 3.75, 27 strikeouts in 24 innings). He began 2013 with Arkansas (3-2, a save, 3.14 in 28 games, 35 strikeouts in 28 2/3 innings) then moved up to Salt Lake (1-0, a save, 3.66 in 16 games, 26 strikeouts in 19 2/3 innings).
Promoted to the majors when Howie Kendrick went on the DL, Buddy became the 24th pitcher used by the 2013 Angels. In his MLB debut, he came in with a 3-2 lead, two on and two out in the bottom of the 6th against Jason Kipnis, relieving Michael Kohn. He struck out Kipnis on four pitches, then J.C. Gutierrez replaced him in the 7th; the Angels went on to win, 7-2. He pitched 25 times for the Angels that first season with no decisions and a 4.75 ERA. After being out of the major leagues in 2014 and 2015, logging some time in independent ball, Buddy resurfaced with the Minnesota Twins in 2016. They signed him as a minor league free agent before the season and brought him up in late May. He had a good year for the last-place team, pitching 37 times in relief with a record of 2-0, 4.25 and struck out 37 batters in 36 innings. He was back with the Twins in 2017 and saw time with the Toronto Blue Jays in 2019.
