Pitcher Dexter Carter was selected by the Texas Rangers in 12th round of the 2005 amateur draft but did not sign, opting to attend Old Dominion University instead. He was then taken by the Chicago White Sox in the 12th round of the 2008 amateur draft. He made his pro debut that summer with the Great Falls Voyagers, going 6-1 while leading the Pioneer League with a 2.23 ERA. The following season, he was traded along with three other players to the San Diego Padres in the deal that brought Jake Peavy to Chicago. He struggled in their organization in 2010 and returned to the White Sox system in 2011. However, after going 3-5 with a 6.65 ERA for the Kannapolis Intimidators, he was released. He spent 2012 playing in the independent American Association.
