Biographical Information[edit]

Pitcher Bryce Jarvis was drafted out of Duke University by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the 1st round of the 2020 amateur draft with the 18th overall pick. One year earlier, in the 2019 amateur draft, the New York Yankees had taken him in the 37th round, but even though he was offered a substantial signing bonus, he decided to stay in school for another year. He had drawn a lot of attention before the 2020 season was abruptly cut short by the COVID-19 pandemic by pitching the first perfect game in the school's history on February 21st, and then following it up with a one-hitter two starts later. A year before, he had lost to Vanderbilt University when Kumar Rocker had pitched a no-hitter in which he had struck out 19 batters, negating a good effort on Bryce's part. He was only the second Blue Devil to be a first-round pick, after Marcus Stroman.

When he was able to begin his pro career in 2021, he appeared with three different teams in the D-Backs system, first the Hillsboro Hops of the High-A West, then the Amarillo Sod Poodles of the Double-A Central, and finally a single rehabilitation outing with the ACL Diamondbacks. In all, he was 2-4, 4.42 in 16 games and 75 1/3 innings. In 2022, he spent a full year with Amarillo, now back in the Texas League, finishing at 3-6, 8.27 in 25 games, all starts. In 106 2/3 innings, he gave up 141 hits and walked 60 batters, leading to the high ERA. He did strike out 110 batters, but the D-Backs had expected a lot more from him when they had made him their top pick two years earlier.

He started the 2023 season with Amarillo and after going 2-1, 3.86 in 3 starts was promoted to the Reno Aces of the Pacific Coast League. There he went 7-5, 5.48 in 22 games before getting the call to the Show. He had been moved to the bullpen for his last few outings in anticipation of a call-up, as it was expected that the big league team would need him to pitch in relief in the immediate. He made his debut with the Diamondbacks on August 15th, following opener Joe Mantiply on the mound against the Colorado Rockies at Coors Field. He gave up 1 run on 1 hit and 1 walk in 3 innings and left with Arizona holding a 2-1 lead, although that lead was eventually blown before the D-Backs came out on top, 8-5.

He is the son of former major league pitcher Kevin Jarvis.
