Biographical Information[edit]

Pitcher Brent Powers began his professional career in 2011 after being taken in the 18th round of the 2011 amateur draft by the Oakland Athletics. The scout was Armann Brown.

He had an up-and-down career. His 2011 ERA was 3.84; in 2012, it was 6.40. His 2013 mark was 3.10; in 2014, it was 5.42. In June 2014, he was released by the Athletics and then signed by the Toronto Blue Jays, who released him in October. He pitched for the Palestine American team in the 2023 Asian Championship. He relieved Steven Mufareh with a 2-1 lead in the 8th against Hong Kong in their debut. He allowed a double to Hoi-Ting Cheng and Tsun-Wai Yung bunted him over. He escaped the jam by retiring Yau-Pang Ng and Ho-Lam Andy Lo sandwiched around an intentional walk to Tsz-Yin Jordan Wen. In the 9th, he singled off Lai-Him Lam and came around to score. Now with a 3-1 lead, he saved it by striking out Ho-Yin Benny Tam, Anson Fung and Hon-Man Ashley Ma, though Cheuk-Kiu Chan reached on an error after Tam's K and made it to third before being stranded. He allowed three hits, three walks and five runs (all earned) in one inning against South Korea, taking over for Muhammad Abdelfattah in the third and being succeeded by Rumsey Yasin. His final outing was better, relieving Mufareh with a 3-0 lead over Thailand in the 7th and going three scoreless. He allowed a hit to Phoomwut Wutthikorn and a walk while striking out two. He tied for 5th in the tourney in appearances (leading his team), tied for 8th in walks and had their third-best ERA after Mufareh and Ibrahim Shalabi. He had previously been part of an Israeli baseball program (Israel and Jordan were the countries that made up Palestine).
