Brad Weitzel

Biographical Information[edit]

Brad Weitzel has been a scout and a coach.

Weitzel was an infielder in college. He was an assistant coach for Palm Beach Community College (1984-1987) and the University of North Florida (1987-1991). In 1990, he was pitching coach for the Erie Sailors. From 1991-2007, he scouted for the Minnesota Twins, signing Cleatus Davidson, Matt Fox, Gus Gandarillas, Doug Mientkiewicz, Jason Miller, Kevin Ohme, Juan Padilla, Dan Perkins, A.J. Pierzynski, Rob Radlosky, Fred Rath, Denard Span, Anthony Swarzak and Tommy Watkins. During this period, he also coached for the GCL Twins two summers. He then returned to the college ranks as assistant at the University of Florida, going to the 2010 College World Series, 2011 College World Series and 2012 College World Series. He stayed at Florida through 2019.

Weitzel's brother Jay also spent many years as a scout, and Jay's son Jerico Weitzel became head coach at Jamestown Community College in 2022.
