Biographical Information

Bob Romby was a Negro League player for five years.

Romby served in the US Army from 1943-1945. He joined the Baltimore Elite Giants in 1946 and went 1-0. The sidearm hurler was 8-8 in 1947. He made the East team for the 1947 East-West Games but did not pitch in either, instead being used as a pinch-hitter. In game one, he pinch-hit for Johnny Hayes in the 6th and was retired by Gentry Jessup in a 5-2 loss. In the second game, he batted for Louis Louden in the 6th and singled to right off Spoon Carter in a 8-2 loss.

Bob was 8-5 in 1948, 5th in the Negro National League in wins behind Bill Byrd, Max Manning, Joe Black and Jonas Gaines. Romby had a 12-6 mark in 1949. Baltimore moved him to first base in 1950 and he hit .381 in his last season; he dropped all four decisions as a pitcher.
