Biographical Information[edit]
Outfielder Benny Castillo was selected by the Cleveland Indians in the 1986 amateur draft but opted to attend Oklahoma State University instead. He was then chosen by the Detroit Tigers in the 24th round of the 1988 amateur draft. He played two years in the Tigers chain, and after spending 1991 with the unaffiliated Salt Lake City Trappers, he was in the Texas Rangers organization for two summers. He spent most of his remaining playing days in the independent Northern League.
Castillo managed in the Northern League from 2000 to 2002 and then was skipper of the Jamestown Jammers in the Florida Marlins organization for two years. After two years as manager of the Yuma Scorpions of the independent Golden Baseball League, he managed the GCL Tigers in 2007.
