Biographical Information[edit]

Third baseman Art Phelan began his playing career in 1907 and earned his first cup of coffee in the majors with the 1910 Cincinnati Reds. He returned to the Reds as the team's regular third baseman in 1912 and hit .243 in 130 games. After the season, he was traded to the Chicago Cubs, for whom he played three years and was the starter at third in 1915. He then returned to the minors. He coached for the University of Florida in 1919-1920. He was with the Fort Worth Panthers from 1920 to 1926, when he left to become skipper of the Shreveport Sports. He later managed the Alexandria Aces for many years and was owner of the club from 1935 to 1951.
