Biographical Information[edit]

Andy Haines was a catcher in college. After graduating, he took on a job as assistant coach of Olney Central College and then at Middle Tennessee State University, where he also earned a graduate degree. He also managed in the collegiate Northwoods League.

Haines was the hitting coach of the Gary SouthShore RailCats of the Northern League in 2005 and 2006. In 2007, he became manager of the Windy City ThunderBolts in the Frontier League, leading the team to the league championship and winning Manager of the Year honors. He was hired by the Florida Marlins and served as hitting coach with the GCL Marlins in 2008. In 2009, he got his first managerial job in an affiliated league, as skipper of the Jamestown Jammers of the New York-Penn League. In 2010 and 2011, he was the manager of the Greensboro Grasshoppers of the South Atlantic League. In 2012, he moved to the Jupiter Hammerheads in the Florida State League.

In 2018, Haines got his first major league coaching job as assistant hitting coach of the Chicago Cubs. In 2019, he moved to the Milwaukee Brewers as hitting coach, but was let go after the 2021 season. In 2022, he became hitting coach of the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Born in Olney, IL he currently lives in Columbia, TN. He is also the owner of the Pro Edge Baseball and Softball Training Academy. Haines' younger brother Kyle Haines played minor league ball from 2004-2013 and became a minor league manager in 2014.
