Biographical Information

Andrés Angulo reached AA in 2021 and has been on the Colombian national team.

Angulo was signed by San Francisco Giants scout Daniel Mavarez in August 2014. He made his pro debut with the DSL Giants in 2015, throwing out 34% who tried to steal and hitting .264/.326/.368. Repeating at the same level in 2016, he batted .231/.361/.299 and gunned down 45%. He came stateside in 2017, hitting .232/.254/.375 for the AZL Giants and catching 42%. He hit .346/.386/.474 for the AZL Giants Orange in 2018; had he qualified, his average would have been third in the Arizona League behind Tucupita Marcano and Yainer Díaz.

Moving up to the Augusta GreenJackets for 2019, he threw out 38% but his batting line dropped to .210/.260/.294. He tied Hayden Senger and Matt Whatley for the most runners thrown out in the South Atlantic League. He played for the Vaqueros de Montería in the 2020 Caribbean Series, part of the first Colombian team in a Caribbean Series. He was 0 for 2 with two walks, a steal and two runs, backing up Arvicent Perez behind the dish. The 2020 minor league season was wiped out by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Cali native made Colombia's squad for the Americas Olympic Qualifier. He started in left field and hit 6th in their opener but went 0 for 3 against Canada's Andrew Albers and Brendan McGuigan as Colombia got no-hit. He was the catcher against Venezuela, going 0 for 3. Finally, against Cuba, he started at 1B (then moved to LF) and singled off Bryan Chi for a hit. He doubled later off Chi to drive in a run and finished the day 2 for 4. On a weak-hitting team, he tied Brallan Pérez, Jerry Downs and Jonathan Lozada for the hit lead. He spent most of the summer with the AA Richmond Flying Squirrels. As their primary backstop, he threw out 49% while his offense remained low (.209/.307/.319). He did a fine job for the Colombian team that won Bronze in the 2021 U-23 Baseball World Cup, at .438/.474/.813 with two homers and seven RBI in six games. He tied for 8th in RBI, tied for third in homers and led in slugging (.051 ahead of Marek Chlup). While two Colombians made the All-World team, he was not one of them as Erasmo Caballero was picked at DH.

He was next with the Caimanes de Barranquilla at the 2022 Caribbean Series.
