Biographical Information[edit]

Alex Rivers has pitched in the US and Germany.

Rivers was 2-2 with a 3.35 ERA as a college freshman, 3-4 with 3 saves and a 5.77 ERA as a sophomore, 5-5 with a 4.85 ERA as a junior and 5-9 with a 4.50 ERA as a senior. The Kansas City Royals took him in the 39th round of the 2010 amateur draft; the scout was Rick Schroeder. Alex combined with Brian Peacock and Jason Mitchell on a no-hitter of the Missoula Osprey on August 24, striking out the last three batters for the save. He finished the summer 1-2 with 6 saves and a 5.34 ERA for the Idaho Falls Chukars, with 38 strikeouts but a .312 opponent average in 28 2/3 innings. He tied for 5th in the Pioneer League in saves. In 2011, he bounced around the Royals chain, pitching for the Burlington Royals (1-1, Sv, 1.02, 19 K in 17 2/3 IP), AZL Royals (6 R in 5 1/3 IP, 8 K), Kane County Cougars (0-1, Sv, 4.56) and Wilmington Blue Rocks (0 R in 2 IP).

Let go by Kansas City early in 2012, he pitched for the independent Schaumburg Boomers (4-4, 5.49, 9 BB in 59 IP) and Fargo-Moorhead Redhawks (1-1, 7.00, 1.94 WHIP in 18 IP). For 2013, he went to Europe, signing with the Cologne Cardinals. He hit .444/.576/.600 (playing 2B when not pitching) and went 4-7 with a 1.71 ERA and 111 strikeouts to 22 walks in 95 innings. Part of the record can be attributed to playing for a 9-19 team. Rivers was among the northern Bundesliga-1 leaders in ERA (third after Nick Renault and Harry Glynne), strikeouts (3rd), losses (tied for 1st), innings (tied for 3rd with Brent Buffa) and WHIP (4th).
