Biographical Information[edit]

Alessandro Deotto has played in Italy and for the Italian national team.

In the 2013 U-18 Baseball World Cup, he hit .176/.300/.235 but played error-free ball (32 TC) as Italy's main catcher. His longest hit was a double off future big leaguer Jack Flaherty. [1] He was 1 for 3 in the 2014 U-21 Baseball World Cup, backing up Alberto Mineo behind the dish. [2] He played for Europe in the Asia Winter League in 2015. [3] That year, he also debuted in Italy's top league, hitting .197/.297/.233 for Parma.

Deotto improved to .270/.336/.360 in 2016 and batted .240/.321/.430 in 2017. He tied for second in the league with three triples in '17, two behind Sebastiano Poma. [4] He was 0 for 10 with a run for Italy in the 2018 Haarlem Baseball Week [5] and slipped to .190/.254/.259 in the 2018 Serie A1. He was 2 for 7 with a run and a RBI in the 2018 Italian Series but Parma fell to Bologna. [6]

Moving to the Rangers Redipuglia for 2019, he hit .231/.348/.462. He tied for 10th in home runs (4), tied for 3rd with 2 triples and tied Mattia Mercuri for 5th in times plunked (4). [7] He returned to Parma for 2020 and batted .344/.400/.719 in limited time. He tied Mattia Reginato, Lorenzo Avagnina and Hendrik Clementina for 4th in home runs (3). [8] In 2021, he produced at a .298/.394/.579 with 32 runs, 9 homers and 33 RBI. He tied Ericson Leonora and Gabriel Lino for the home run lead. [9]

He made the Italian squad for the 2021 European Championship, backing up Ernesto Liberatore at catcher. His first game, he batted for Liberatore and drew a walk from Austria's Brian Fürböck. He started at DH in the Bronze Medal Game against Spain. He went 0 for 2 against Elián Leyva but drew a 7th-inning bases-loaded walk from Fernando Baez to force in Vito Friscia with the game's first run - and winning run in a 2-0 victory. [10]
