Biographical Information[edit]
Abner Abreu played six seasons of minor league ball.
Abreu was initially signed by Cleveland Indians scout Junior Betances in 2006. He began his professional career as a 17-year-old infielder with the DSL Indians the next season, hitting .303 in 56 games. He moved to the United States with the GCL Indians the next summer, and in 2009, he was converted to the outfield. He was traded to the Chicago Cubs on July 28, 2011, along with pitcher Carlton Smith, in return for veteran outfielder Kosuke Fukudome. He played 19 games in the Atlanta Braves organization in 2012 but was ultimately released.
Abreu's brother Esdras Abreu has played for the DSL Rangers 2 (2009) and DSL Rangers (2010-2011).
