Biographical Information

Carlton Smith is the younger brother of infielder Corey Smith.

Smith was drafted by the Cleveland Indians as a draft-and-follow in the 24th round of the 2004 amateur draft. After a year of junior college he was signed by scouts Scott Barnsby and Chuck Ricci and he pitched in their organization from 2005 to 2011. On July 28, 2011, he was traded to the Chicago Cubs, along with Abner Abreu, in return for OF Kosuke Fukudome.
