The 1997 Hoofdklasse had eight teams playing 42 games. The Minolta Pioniers won their first, and so far only Hoofdklasse title as they beat Mr. Cocker HCAW in the Holland Series. The Pioniers only just made the playoffs as the fourth placed team. They upset pennant winners Neptunus in the semi final to reach the Holland Series.

Mike Crouwel of Vrienden Kinheim won his second consecutive MVP award. Jurriaan Lobbezoo of HCAW was named Best Pitcher.
