Despite featuring multiple individual campaigns of note, the 1992 Philadelphia Phillies were a middling, last-place team. Catcher Darren Daulton had a breakout campaign, hitting 27 home runs with a National League-leading 109 RBI, while Dave Hollins slugged 27 home runs with 93 RBI and 104 runs scored. Lenny Dykstra and Mariano Duncan lit up the base paths with 30 and 23 steals, respectively, while John Kruk hit .323 with a .423 on-base percentage. The team, in fact, was adept at getting on base as a whole, finishing fourth in the NL in that category. Ricky Jordan (.304 BA) and Stan Javier (17 steals) were useful tools off the bench. The team paced the loop in hit by pitches and times caught stealing, with 51 and 31, respectively, and was second in runs scored, with 674. Hollins led the league's players with 19 HBP. In the rotation, Curt Schilling had a star season, going 14-11 with 10 complete games, 4 shutouts, a 2.35 ERA and 150 ERA+; Terry Mulholland had 13 wins and 12 CGs in 229 innings, and Ben Rivera won 7 games and had a 2.82 ERA. The foil to their achievements was Kyle Abbott, who went 1-14 in 133 1/3 innings. The bullpen was the weak link, with no reliever posting an ERA under 3. Closer Mitch Williams had 29 saves and a solid 7.7 H/9 IP ratio, but his 8 losses, 3.78 ERA and 64 walks in 81 innings left much to be desired. 24-year-old youngster Keith Shepherd inspired some hope with a 3.27 ERA in 22 innings over 12 appearances, but that proved to be the highlight of his career. 23-year-old pitcher Mike Williams was the team's youngest player, while Dale Murphy was its oldest at 36.
