1986 Junior World Championship
The 1986 Junior World Championships were the third in a row in which Cuba took the Gold Medal. Held in Windsor, ON, it marked the first of many silver medals for Taiwan. Raul Ajete led Cuba by hitting .480 with 4 homers and 9 RBI in 25 AB. Cuba's only loss came against the USA's Mike Mussina, who shut them down on five hits, one walk, 16 strikeouts and no runs. The US won the Bronze, its worst World Junior Championship finish of the 1980s. In addition to Mussina, US stars were Ryan Bowen (2-0, 1.50) and Dan Opperman (0-1, 1.08; .429 average). Taiwan's Silver Medal team included Kun-Han Lin, Kun-Yuan Chuo, Chun-Yu Huang, Ming-Hsiung Liao, Kuo-Chian Ku, Chun-Chung Shen and Wen-Chung Chang.
