Kun-Yuan Chuo pitched in the CPBL and for the Taiwanese national team. He was noted for his slider. [1]
Chuo was on the Taiwanese team that made the finals of the 1982 Little League World Series. [2] He played for Taiwan in the 1986 World Junior Championship (winning a Silver Medal) and 1987 World Junior Championship. [3] He played for Taiwan in the 1990 Goodwill Games. [4] He allowed three runs in two innings in the 1990 Baseball World Cup and took the loss against Josue Salva and Puerto Rico. [5]
The right-hander was on Taiwan's team that took Silver in the 1991 Asian Championship to win a spot in the 1992 Olympics. [6] He had knee surgery in '92. [7] Turning pro, he was 5-5 with four saves and a 3.57 ERA for the China Times Eagles in the 1993 CPBL (the team had begun play in the CPBL that year; he had played for them in his amateur career as well. He tied Tony Metoyer for third in the loop with 36 appearances and tied for fifth in saves. In 1994, he had a 6-3, 3.45 record. He was 3-3 with a save and a 3.08 ERA in 1995. He tied Wu-Hsiung Huang and Jose Nunez for fourth with 34 games pitched. He faded to 1-2 with a save and a 6.16 ERA in 1996. He had gone 15-13 with six saves and a 3.88 ERA in 125 CPBL games (19 starts), with a 1.46 WHIP. His career then ended due to the Black Eagles game-fixing scandal that ended the Eagles' existence.
