The 1929 International League season marked the second of four straight titles for the Rochester Red Wings. George Quellich of Reading had an amazing run in August in which he went 15-for-15 with a double and five home runs. The league also got to see Newark player-manager Tris Speaker hit .355/~.429/.558 in 48 games as he neared the end of his great career. Speaker succeeded an even bigger star, Walter Johnson, as Newark skipper.
