Biographical Information[edit]

Hobart "Rabbit" Whitman led the International League in hits with 230 in 1929 while part of the Reading Keystones.

1928 (with Montreal for 11 games and Reading for 139 games): 150 games, 200 hits in 575 At-bats, 105 runs scored, 38 doubles, 10 triples, 10 home runs, 87 RBI. 32 walks, hit by 6 pitches, 28 sac hits, 14 stolen bases and 3 strikeouts.

1929 (with Reading): 169 games, 230 hits in 659 at-bats (.349 batting average), 118 runs, 43 doubles, 5 triples, 4 home runs, 40 wwalks, hit by 13 pitches, 116 RBI, 11 stolen bases, 14 strikeouts.

1934 (with Albany for 15 games and Jersey City for 22 games): 37 games, 34 hits in 133 AB (.256 batting average), 16 runs, 2 doubles, 11 walks, 2 HBP, 7 RBI, 1 stolen base, and 1 strikeout.

Birth and Death dates are not totally confirmed, but are guesses from searching the Social Security Death Index. The 1897-1969 Whitman is the only one who would fit as someone who would be playing in the late 1920s and who would be pretty much done by the middle of the 1930s. In 2008 he was elected to the International League Hall of Fame.
