Biographical Information

Ed Holly, after 10 games in 1906, became the every-day shortstop on the St. Louis Cardinals of 1907, who lost 101 games. His .229 batting average was only 3 points under the team average of .232. He led the team with 18 doubles.

He did not play again in the major leagues until the Federal League opened up new opportunities. Holly became the regular shortstop for the Pittsburgh Rebels at the age of 34 in 1914, hitting .246 on a team that hit .262.

Holly managed the Montreal Royals from mid-1928 to mid-1932 and scouted for various major league teams (including the Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees) after his playing days. In 1949 he was elected to the International League Hall of Fame.
