History, Comments, Contributions[edit]
The 1892 Boston Beaneaters were the first team in major league history to win 100 games, finishing the year with 102 victories. 1892 was the only season in major league history to use a split season format (except for the strike-shortened 1981 season). Boston easily won the first half, then let up a bit as the Cleveland Spiders won the second half. However, Boston handily defeated Cleveland in the 1892 Championship Series, five games to none with a tie.
