Biographical Information

Zac Rosscup made the majors in 2013.

Rosscup was taken by the Tampa Bay Rays in the 28th round of the 2009 amateur draft; Paul Kirsch was the scout. That summer, he went 3-4 with a 2.68 ERA for the Princeton Rays, walking only 6 in 40 1/3 innings. He split 2010 between the GCL Rays (3 R in 8 2/3 IP) and the Hudson Valley Renegades (3-1, Sv, 3.03, 35 K, 7 BB in 35 2/3 IP). That off-season, Tampa Bay packaged him with Matt Garza and Fernando Perez in a deal to the Chicago Cubs for Chris Archer, Robinson Chirinos, Hak-ju Lee, Sam Fuld and Brandon Guyer.

Rosscup was 4-2 with a 2.54 ERA and 50 K in 49 2/3 IP for the 2011 Daytona Cubs. He missed much of 2012 with tendinitis in his left biceps; he returned to go 2-1 with a 3.45 ERA in 15 relief appearances between three Cubs affiliates. He opened 2013 with the Tennessee Smokies (2-1, 3 Sv, 2.49, 66 K in 43 1/3 IP) then moved up to the Iowa Cubs (0-1, 17 K, 5 UER in 7 2/3 IP).

A September call-up to The Show with the Cubs in 2013, Zach relieved Alberto Cabrera with a 3-2 deficit in the top of the 6th against the Miami Marlins; there was one on and one out. He struck out Chris Coghlan, walked Donovan Solano and got Christian Yelich on a fly ball. Hector Rondon relieved him in the 7th. he had a solid 1.35 ERA in 10 games that season, then returned in 2014 to play 18 games at the major league level. The results could not have been more different however. While he recorded his first big league win, his ERA was 9.45 in 13 1/3 innings as he gave up 14 hits and 12 walks. He did strike out 23 batters. He did a lot better in 2015, going 2-1, 4.39 in 33 games. He pitched 26 2/3 innings and lowered his walks to 13 while still striking out 29 opponents.

After being sidelined all of 2016 with an injury and thus missing out on the Cubs run to a World Series win, he was back in 2017. He went 2-2, 2.93 in 17 games for Iowa and was brought back to Chicago at the end of May, when he made one appearance, pitching two-thirds of an inning on May 27th without giving up anything. However, he was designated for assignment a month later when the Cubs needed room on the 40-man roster and on June 26th, he was traded to the Colorado Rockies in return for Matt Carasiti.

He was selected to play for the Mumbai Cobras on October 23, 2023.
