Biographical Information

Hak-ju Lee debuted in the minors in 2009.

Lee signed with the Chicago Cubs at age 17 after being scouted by Steve Wilson. He debuted as a pro with the 2009 Boise Hawks, hitting .330/.399/.420 with 25 steals in 33 tries and 56 runs in 68 games. He fielded just .919 at short, the lone negative. Lee led the Northwest League in runs and steals and wasd fourth in average. He also led NWL shortstops in errors. Baseball America rated him the #1 prospect in the league, just ahead of Edinson Rincon and Brett Jackson. They also rated him Chicago's #6 prospect going into 2010.

Lee started 2010 with the Peoria Chiefs and was at .271/.337/.340 after 62 games with 17 steals in 21 tries and 40 runs. He was picked for the World team in the 2010 Futures Game, the second South Korean infielder ever chosen for a Futures Game, following Hee-seop Choi. After the season, he was one of the prospects sent to the Tampa Bay Rays in the trade which landed the Cubs P Matt Garza.
