Biographical Information[edit]

Young-myung An pitched in the KBO for 17 years. His brother Young-jin An also pitched in the KBO.

An was drafted by the Hanwha Eagles in the first round of the 2003 KBO draft, and he had a 3.89 ERA in 34 games in his first season. He had a 6.46 ERA in 8 games in 2004, then his ERA was 6.10 in 10 games in 2005. An improved to a 3.29 ERA in 32 games in 2006, and he notched 15 holds with a 3.06 ERA in 61 games in 2007. He was 7th in holds (tied with Yong-hoon Cho) and 10th in appearances (20 behind Taek-hyun Ryu). An appeared in the legendary 18-inning game on September 3 against the Doosan Bears, and he gave four straight walks in the bottom of the 18th innings to get the loss. He ended up having a 7-1 record with a 5.31 ERA in 2008.

The Cheonan native was 11-8 with a 5.18 ERA in 2009, and he set the KBO record by allowing 34 homers in a season. He was then traded with Seong-ho Park and Da-won Kim to the KIA Tigers for Sung-ho Jang, Dong-hyon Lee and Kyeong-eon Kim. An's ERA was 6.75 in 47 games in 2010, and he came back to the Eagles as the compensation of free agent Bum-ho Lee. He missed most of the next three seasons due to military service, and he was 7-6 with a 4.52 ERA in 48 appearances in 2014. An joined the rotation in 2015, and he was 10-6 with a 5.10 ERA. He only pitched 2 games due to right shoulder injury in the next season, then he was 1-8 with a 5.75 ERA in 2017.

An announced that he would became a free agent after the 2017 season, and he signed a 2-year, 1.2-billion won contract with the Eagles. His ERA was 5.73 in 53 games in 2018, and he collected 13 holds with a 3.92 ERA in 67 relief outings in 2019. He was 8th in appearances, tied with Hyung-beom Lee, Sang-soo Kim and Ri-ho Kang). An's ERA rose to 5.91 in 39 games in 2020, and the Eagles released him. He signed with the KT Wiz, and he recorded a 4.08 ERA in 35 games in 2021. He only pitched 4 games in 2022, and he announced his retirement.

Overall, An was 62-57 with a 4.90 ERA, collected 62 holds and 16 saves in 575 appearances, struck out 750 and pitched 1,048 1/3 innings in 17 seasons in the KBO. As of 2024, he was 21st in homers allowed (between Min-tae Chung and Kyung-eun Noh) and 33th in appearances (tied with Jeong-kil Ma).
