Biographical Information[edit]

Yoshiyuki Kamei is an outfielder for the Yomiuri Giants.

Kamei played for Japan in the 2004 World University Championship. He was drafted in the 4th round of the 2004 NPB draft by the Yomiuri Giants. In 2005, he went 6 for 42 with 2 doubles, a walk and 15 strikeouts. In 2006, Kamei was one of several right field options tried by Yomiuri, along with Kenji Yano and Takuya Kimura most notably. He hit .206/.233/.369 with 5 walks and 38 strikeouts in 151 plate appearances.

Kamei was assigned to the Honolulu Sharks of Hawaii Winter Baseball in 2006 and hit .300/.349/.440 in a pitching-dominated league; he still struck out in 28 of 100 AB. He was third in average behind Will Venable and John Otness, tied Venable for 4th in hits (30), was 4th in slugging and was second in triples (4, one behind Nyjer Morgan).

After his fine fall/winter, Kamei only played 20 games in the summer of 2007 for the Giants, hitting .158/.261/.368 in 23 plate appearances. His playing time picked back up in 2008 thanks to injuries to Yoshinobu Takahashi and a decline from Yoshitomo Tani. Kamei hit .268/.311/.420 in 96 games and cut his strikeout rate, with "only" 43 in 276 AB.

Kamei hit .217/.217/.348 for Yomiuri in the 2008 Japan Series with 3 of his 5 hits being doubles. He was with Samurai Japan for the 2009 World Baseball Classic as a backup outfielder, playing three games as a defensive sub and pinch-runner. Against South Korea, he pinch-ran for Shuichi Murata and stole second base. Staying in the game, he later singled off Jae-woo Lee but was thrown out running by Min-ho Kang.

Also played for the Melbourne Aces of the Australian Baseball League in the 2010-11 season.
